As a new fundraising push from the AHC Foundation in the US begins, Sharon, from the AHC Foundation offers a quick summary on the Pepsi Challenge Grant award that was partially received already.
Over to Sharon, "We received the first half of the $250K from Pepsi in January. Dr Swoboda's team prepared the samples to be tested and sent them to the ISB lab for Genome sequencing. During this first half of the year they will be sequencing familial and sporadic cases of AHC.
There is a report due in June from the researchers to update Pepsi about our progress. We will then receive the second half of the grant money and the second phase will begin, which is the analysis of the data from the sequencing of both familial and variant sporadic cases. This will take us up to the end of the year in which the final report is due and an evaluation of the findings will be presented.
Every fundraising opportunity helps us move toward our goals. "When" we find the gene comes development of therapies and medication clinical trials, genetic therapy and development of tests to determine and prevent AHC etc...
Not to mention the development of an international database and global awareness campaign.
This takes millions of dollars so we can't let up! We should pursue every possible avenue of raising money that we can. We are so grateful to everyone who is conducting a fundraiser and sending us fundraising opportunities. Keep up the good fight!!"
